Hunger of the Skin Band
Touring with the legendary Brian Finnegan and band, performing music from the acclaimed Hunger of the Skin album.
Listen to the albumOne of the things I love most is that each week serves up new music and opportunities to work with amazing people. I love collaboration and for the most part, no two gigs are the same and that's the way I like it!
I've been lucky to work and tour with some of the most inspiring and generous musicians including Kathryn Tickell, Flook, Zakir Hussain, Julie Fowlis and Mark Knopfler. My biggest claim to fame was playing alongside Kylie Minogue, Lulu and Karen Matheson at the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. I know - pretty cool!
Other Live Work
Thanks to my bilingual musical upbringing (that is traditional music plus classical training), I enjoy lending my fiddle & viola playing to a wide variety of other genres, including jazz, funk, soul and pop. If I'm being honest, these are the styles that I listen to and enjoy the most as a punter, so I get a lot of joy from playing in Scotland with the likes of Seonaid Aitken, Corto Alto, Georgia Cecile, Blue Rose Code and kitti.
To a large extent, I've hung up my touring boots because, well, I love being at home and keeping up a routine, which includes seeing friends and family, eating well, sleeping well and moving well! Touring is tough and I am really selective about the time that I spend away from the things and people that I love.
What I do enjoy is putting new music together and the buzz of a first performance. In Scotland, we are very lucky to have the world's biggest and best music festival, Celtic Connections on our doorstep, and they are brilliant at supporting new music and innovative projects, so I'm usually kept pretty busy in Glasgow come January.
"A glorious musician playing with soul and integrity."
"Patsy Reid is one of the finest fiddle players working in the Scottish scene today."
"Perhaps Perthshire is entering a new golden age of fiddle music."
"There are lots of wondrous fiddle players in Scotland - and indeed the rest of the British Isles. What perhaps sets Patsy Reid apart is musical hunger and her willingness to explore supposedly alien territories of technique, content and culture. This inevitably contains no small element of risk but, accomplished as she is, Patsy has not only earned the right to take the bow on a journey of discovery, she's gathered the know-how to get it right."
