Session strings & studio recording
The One-Woman String Section
I play violin, viola and cello — which means I can lay down a full string section on my own. Whether you need a single fiddle line or a rich, layered quartet sound, I can come to your studio or record from my home setup.
I'm comfortable with a collaborative back-and-forth workflow (sending takes, refining parts remotely) or a single focused studio session — whatever suits your project best.
Studios
I'm a regular at Scotland's top recording studios:
Who I've Recorded For
The range of work is broad: sometimes it'll be pop with the likes of Deacon Blue or Dot Allison; more often than not it's somewhere on the traditional/folk spectrum. I also do film and TV work for the likes of Donald Shaw, Hannah Peel, Scott Twynholm, and Kim Carnie.
Home Studio
Having specialised in Recording and Sound Production at Strathclyde University, I've had a studio setup at home long before the pandemic. Sometimes it's beneficial to have the flexibility of collaborating back and forth — and it can be a really effective, efficient way of adding strings to a project.
With Seonaid Aitken
I'm fortunate to work regularly with Seonaid Aitken, who I think is the greatest string arranger in the business. Her arrangements for string quartet are a total joy to behold and our regular lineup features Seonaid on violin, myself on viola or violin, and Alice Allen on cello. Listen out for us on recent albums by kitti, Corto Alto, Georgia Cecile, Hannah Rarity, and Heidi Talbot.
